Hekelsteeg, Utrecht
Series about an alley in Utrecht. Why? In this alley, named De Hekelsteeg, communication expert settled their office and named it: Buro de Steeg. Their company philosophy is about alleys, small alleys are the arteries of a city, people behave different in an alley compared to the shopping boulevards. An alley gives them some privacy, to make an important phone call, pull up your thights, cuddle your loved one, or quickly change your shirt. Besides all these privacy benefits, cossing an alley is often a quit short cut to the place you need to be.
Buro de Steeg asked me to document the alley turmoil. The work is still in progress.

Quad Rugby photo exhibition
The Quad rugby project is currently exhibited in various rehabilitation centres in The Netherlands
Press Release Photo Exhibition
In 2011 photographer Wiebke Wilting photographed various rugby tournaments at home and abroad that the Dutch wheelchair rugby selection took part, including the European Championship in Switzerland.
Quad Rugby is relatively unknown in the Netherlands, in contrast to countries like the U.S. and Britain. The sport, originally developed for people with spinal cord injury, was officially part of the 1994 Paralympic Games and is rising worldwide popularity since then. Quad rugby is an extremely fast and tactical game, players drive in wheelchairs especially developed for the rough work. Unlike rugby wheelchair rugby is played with a round ball.
"It's spectacular to see, even if you do not know the rules," said Wiebke Wilting. "It looks extremely aggressive, and yet it is a sophisticated game with many tactics involved. This series was created through the eyes of an outsider. I knew nothing of rehabilitation and disabilities, but have photographed many people in rehabilitation centers. These people always seems so vulnerable to me, they seem ‘broken’ and need to be repaired. Rugby is a different story, the players have their disability, but they’re tougher than most people without a disability.
The Book Quad Rugby is for sale in the Blurb store: http://nl.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2904116

Blikkiesdorp, Cape Town
Blikkiesdorp was built by the City of Cape Town in 2007. It contains approximately 1,600 one room structures. According to government officials, it has cost over 30 million rand to build.
The structures have walls and roofs made of thin tin and zinc sheets. They are of 18 square meters in size. Ablution, sanitation, and water facilities are shared between four structures.
Blikkiesdorp has become well-known for its high crime rate, its substandard living conditions, and its extremely hot or cold, windy and sandy living environment.
It has been called an informal settlement by City of Cape Town officials despite its formal structure being built by the government. In response to the citicisms, the City has called Blikkiesdorp the safest informal settlement in Cape Town. It has also been compared to a concentration camp by residents and in national and international media.
Blikkiesdorp has been instrumental in relocating residents evicted from elsewhere in the City. Many evicted residents of Salt River and Woodstock have found themselves in the relocation camp almost 30 kilometers away from town.It has been called a dumping ground for unwanted and or homeless people from all over Cape Town. The evicted symphony Way Pavement Dwellers were moved to Blikkiesdorp in October 2009 after occupying Symphony Way for almost two years.

BNN
The concept of this series of 3 identity spots was based on the current BNN slogan 'Laat Niet Los' (Don't let go) and the sticker metaphor that they currently use.
The result is a dynamic and energetic spot that really showed the character of BNN. Youthful, rebellious and bold. The BNN personalities are running around in the city, searching for a wall, door or other object to jump- and stick on. The sticker transformation is being done by film into photography transition.

Labor
For many assignments I visit work floors, from law offices to shipping companies. Some people work just for money, for others work is also needed to get enough mental and/or physical challenge and a way of life. The work you practice is part of your identity, and that is so clearly visible on work floors.

Schouten en Nelissen
For Schouten & Nelissen I travelled around to photograph interesting people who were featured in their annual magazine, designed by Today Designers. The theme of the magazine was talent, so all the people I photographed had a specific talent. Finally Schouten & Nelissen launched a TV commercial, where we used stop motion photography. Animation and editing is done by Simon van de Rijdt.

Historic Heroes
*Award of excellence, Visual Culture Awards 2010*
Series about the Lucky Seventh armored division group. All members own one or more WWII vehicles, originally used by American, British, Scottish allied troups. Lucky Seventh was an American armored division, based in Limburg during WWII.
They also collect uniforms, music, tents, equipment and especially stories about WWII. When they organise tours, they drive around and visit former battle places in Holland. Some of them adopt the identity of one of the many war heroes for 1 day, Like 'Tinus' (Herman in daily life), the british dressed motor cyclist. They aren't veterans, all of them were born after '45.
I made these story because I find it interesting to see how these people visualize the heroic stories about the battlefields of WWII in Holland. They feel a little like heroes, dressed up in original uniforms driving aound in the war vehicles.

Fresh Winds Art Festival 2011, Garður, Iceland
Fresh Winds 2011, art festival
Garður, Iceland
From December 2010 to January 2011, the International Artistic Event Fresh Winds in Gardur will be held for the first time in Iceland. The theme of the Festival is devoted to the aurora borealis, under the artistic direction of Mireya Samper. The landscape surrounding the fishing village of Gardur, made of lava fields and pastures, is open to winds from the Atlantic ocean, from the north, south, and west. This is the ideal place to watch the Northern Lights during the long winter months.
Fresh Winds in Gardur is a unique event in the country: dozens of artists from various disciplines and nationalities are invited to Gardur residence to be directly inspired by nature, the region and its people and leave their marks under the shaped creations. During the eight weeks of residence, the artists will share their knowledge and their artistic expertise, in all kind of media and in their own way. The period will be filled with events such as presentations of the artists and their work, concerts, film screenings, performances, panel discussions, etc… These events will be open to the public the whole time.
The aim of the festival is to create an environment of art as a new expression and create new bonds of friendship between the Icelandic and foreign artists. In other words, share and learn from each other, work and exhibit together, while being in direct contact with the villagers. This may be through a direct collaboration of artistic creation or by conferences or other forms of teaching or contributions to the life of the local school. The aim of the festival is to address the entire community and invite them to participate.
The result of these eight weeks of residence will be visible in the form of exhibitions, installations, concerts, inside and outside at Gardur. The festivities will begin on January 6 on the "party of thirteen" which is a traditional local celebration.
The project receives support from the host municipality Gardur, the Icelandic Ministry of Education and Culture, and numerous sponsors. Fresh Winds in Gardur are under the protection of the first lady of Iceland, Dorrit Moussaieff.
